When Everything Is a Transformation, Nothing Truly Transforms
Are people really resisting change — or are we simply asking them to absorb too much of it at once?
Organisations today are simultaneously implementing new systems, restructuring, introducing AI, reducing costs, changing operating models and responding to constant market pressure — while expecting people to keep delivering business as usual.
Each initiative may make perfect sense individually.
Collectively, they can create transformation overload.
In this article, I explore why leaders need to start managing change capacity, not just individual change programmes. I look at the hidden impact of unfinished transformation, “change debt,” the pressure placed on middle managers, compliant non-adoption, and why go-live is not the same as genuine adoption.
Perhaps the next evolution of change management is not learning how to make people accept more change.
It is learning how to build organisations that can continuously change — without exhausting their capacity, energy and ability to perform.
I would love to hear your perspective: Are organisations trying to transform too much, too quickly?
